What started out as an exercise in model building and photography, ended up as a dream-like reconstruction of the Pittsburgh town that Michael Paul Smith grew up in. His images are created entirely in camera, and he does not use Photoshop (though it wouldn't bother me if he did). He employs the age-old special effects trick of lining up his models with an appropriate background. Buildings are created 1/24th scale and constructed of Gator board, styrene plastic, and Sintra (a flexible plastic that can be carved and painted.
