The Billion Dollar-o-gram

At some point, the large sums of money reported on by the press become meaningless. How are we to get a sense for the size of a billion, or a trillion for that matter? Info-graphic site Information is Beautiful comes to the rescue with this enlightening illustration that puts numbers in perspective. Who knew that Bill Gates' net worth is roughly equal to the amount spent on the 2008 Beijing Games. And check out that enormous beige box at the bottom: it's the cost of the mortgage financial crisis. See the large version.
