In the early 16th century, Simonio and Lyndiana Bernacotti figured out to sandwich a stick of graphite between two pieces of wood, creating the world's first pencil. Little did they know that half a century later, their invention would become a carving medium.
Dalton Ghetti is the Giacometti of Graphite. The 45-year-old Bridgeport resident has been carving sculptures into pencil lead, without the aid of a magnifying glass, for 25 years. He works with only three tools: a razor blade, sewing needle and sculpting knife.
