Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2:50PM Apple: Crunchy on the outside, beautiful on the inside
When Michael Tompert decided to shoot a MacBook Pro with a 9mm Heckler & Koch handgun, little did know that the impact would be felt around the world.
Michael’s show, called 12LVE, consists of high-resolution photography of Apple devices that have met an untimely death (by way of sledgehammers, trains, handsaws and other devices). The 12 images on display are large-scale yet microscopic, and provide a canvas for contemplating our relationship with fetish, fashion, freedom & bondage. Like most good art, reactions are polarizing. Some think the work is downright evil: it’s as if Michael walked into their homes and personally destroyed their prized iGadgets. Others see it as fine art, exposing the guts of our iGadgets in all their colorful beauty. I find it incredibly powerful.
Make up your own mind and see for yourself at BRIM|WHITESPACE gallery in Palo Alto’s Town & Country Village.
