Brand66

Just what the world needs: another blog from another self-important design guru. Brand66 is a design discussion presented by — me, Michael Rylander. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to work on some the world's great brands, like Apple, Sony, BMW, Fortune, and American Express.

Camping, circa 2030

Ignoring the fact that the driver looks like he needs a companion, the Ecco concept car is one spiffy way to enjoy the outdoors. The designers, Nau, call it a “zero-emissions mobile living solution.” The aerodynamic shape and solar power provide the green factor.

When Ecco is parked in lurve machine mode, a PV cell-studded “membrane roof” folds out like an accordion, sucking up additional solar power. The membrane roof also replicates the function of a camper pop-top, expanding to accommodate a sleeping loft. The rest of the interior manages to squeeze a kitchen, a living area, a toilet and shower, and an extra bed into a space only 8 feet wide and 15 feet long.
