Brand66

Just what the world needs: another blog from another self-important design guru. Brand66 is a design discussion presented by — me, Michael Rylander. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to work on some the world's great brands, like Apple, Sony, BMW, Fortune, and American Express.

Comedy Carpet

Five years in the making, the Comedy Carpet contains jokes and songs from more than a 1000 comedians, immortalized in concrete and granite.

Artist Gordon Young says he was inspired by nearby Blackpool Tower in Lancashire, England, with its Viennese ballroom, arabesque circus and Art Nouveau foyers.

At first sight, it appears as if the text is painted, but in fact each of the 160,000 letters has been individually cut from solid granite or blue concrete. The letters range in size from a few centimeters to over a meter so viewers can enjoy it both close up and from the viewing platform in the Blackpool Tower.
