Brand66

Just what the world needs: another blog from another self-important design guru. Brand66 is a design discussion presented by — me, Michael Rylander. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to work on some the world's great brands, like Apple, Sony, BMW, Fortune, and American Express.

House of the Rising Scanjet

There may not be a ghost in the machine, but there’s a musician trapped inside. YouTuber BD594 has unleashed the inner-Hendrix in a variety of old-school gadgets, creating a full-on rock-and-roll band. While they don’t quite move like Jagger, their peformances are inspired. Band members consist of:

  • HP Scanjet 3P (vocals).
  • Atari 800XL with an EiCO Oscilloscope (organ)
  • Texas instrument Ti-99/4A with a Tektronix Oscilloscope (guitar)
  • Hard-drive powered by a PiC16F84A microcontroller (drums)

Other than the noises created by each device, no sampling or other audio was used. The band also does a nice version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Personally, I’m waiting for Free Bird.
